Printmaking

Intaglio Printing:
Lines are engraved into a metal plate, then placed in a corrosive acid to deepen the line-work. Once the plate is removed, ink is applied, and the plate with paper is rolled through a printing press. The printed image is then removed and revealed.
Relief Printing:
Lines are carved into a softer surface, creating the negative space. Once the plate is complete, the artist applies the ink, and the raised surface catches the ink. A printing press or hand rubbing can be used.
